Product overview
Printed artwork with a film surface.
A laminated bag combines a printed paper body with a film surface. Gloss emphasizes reflections, matte reduces visible glare and soft-touch changes tactile feel. None of these finishes makes the whole bag waterproof or proves its load capacity. Gusset folds, a bonded base and reinforced rope or ribbon attachments determine how the converted bag carries.

Surface sheen
Matte, gloss and soft-touch films give the printed paper different appearance and feel.
Retail shape
A gusseted body and formed base provide space for a carried product.
Assembled handles
Rope, ribbon or tape handles connect the carrier construction with the chosen presentation.
Specifications & materials
Choose the Bag Size, Film Finish and Handles
Start with body width × gusset depth × height in mm; handle drop separately. Then compare the material and construction choices below.
Use these options to prepare your specification. Material grades, weights, thicknesses and feasible dimensions are confirmed for the quoted construction. A paper weight is not a finished thickness or a strength rating.
| Parameter | Options or Information to Supply | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Finished dimensions | Small gift example: 180 × 230 mm; Retail example: 260 × 320 mm | Face width × height references only. Specify gusset depth, usable body dimensions and handle drop separately. |
| Format and component count | Bags by size, artwork, film and handle specification | Count finished bags by size and artwork; tissue, tags and any packed gift components are separate line items. |
| Body paper | Printable paper selected with the film and bag construction | Confirm stiffness and folding after lamination. |
| Film surface | Matte, gloss or soft-touch option where available | Compare glare, scuff appearance and tactile feel on a converted sample. |
| Handles and reinforcement | Rope, tape or ribbon with agreed attachment and support | State total carried mass in kg and review the loaded assembly. |
| Decoration | Compatible foil, embossing or selective finish if required | Confirm the sequence and compatibility with the selected film. |

Compare materials and construction
Choose around the intended use. These are alternatives to discuss, subject to the confirmed specification.
Matte film
- Suitable for
- A less reflective retail bag surface.
- Check before selection
- Check scuff visibility and crease behavior after folding.
Gloss film
- Suitable for
- A reflective surface for image-led graphics.
- Check before selection
- Check glare, rub and the final handle reinforcement; film alone does not establish carrying capacity.
Surface finish options
Printed outer bag panels
Compare matte or gloss film on the specified paper and restrained foil accents. Check folds, handle attachment and adhesive zones on an assembled bag; film does not provide a load rating or make the bag waterproof.

Keep the Surface and Carrying Structure Working Together
Focus the review on film appearance across folds, base support and loaded handle attachment.

01 / SELECTION CHECK
Review the film after conversion
Inspect adhesion, marking and folds on the printed, laminated paper. A flat film swatch cannot establish the appearance of a folded corner or a heavily inked bag face.
02 / SELECTION CHECK
Confirm the loaded carrying system
Trial the declared contents with the chosen handle attachment and base support. Review any reinforcement as part of the build rather than treating surface lamination as evidence of load capacity.
Laminated bag structure & finish planning
Coordinate the surface finish with folding, handle strength and real contents
A laminated bag adds a surface film to the printed exterior, but its carrying performance still depends on the bag body, gusset, base and handle attachment. Test the finished sample with the actual items and review how the film behaves at folds and edges.

Select the material by its finished behavior
Choose the printable body paper and film as a converted pair. Gloss, matte and soft-touch film change reflection and touch; reinforcement paper, base support and handle attachments are separate decisions. Inspect the full finished bag for fold cracking, scuffs and load behavior.
Production checks that prevent avoidable rework
Compare the surface effect on a sample
Review glare, scuff visibility, color and hand feel under the intended retail lighting. Matte and gloss films change the appearance of the same print.
Inspect folds, corners and attachment points
Open and load a sample repeatedly. Look for film lifting, cracking at tight folds or stress around the handle patch and base.
Test loaded fit and carrying behavior
Use the heaviest or most awkward intended contents in a representative sample. Confirm clearance and carrying comfort; do not publish a load rating without a defined test.
Use-case selection
Choose a configuration for the job it has to do
Premium retail shopping
Use a refined surface, coordinated rope or ribbon handles and a gusset sized to the product.
Trade-off: Lamination adds material and may affect recyclability in the destination market.
Gift presentation
Coordinate interior color, handle drop and tissue or insert dimensions with the final contents.
Trade-off: Decorative additions can add assembly steps and pack volume.
Brand campaign bag
Choose matte or gloss based on lighting and artwork, then review color on the laminated sample.
Trade-off: A proof on unlaminated stock cannot fully show the final surface appearance.
Problem → cause → solution
Resolve the failure points before production
The handle detaches or the base opens
Why it happens: The assembled load reaches an attachment or glue joint that a flat-paper sample did not test.
How to prevent it: Load the finished bag with the intended contents and check handle patches, knots or bonds, base joints and sharp corners during the expected carrying motion.
The folded surface scuffs or cracks
Why it happens: Film, ink and crease behavior were evaluated separately rather than after conversion.
How to prevent it: Review a fully folded sample under the intended lighting, then inspect high-coverage folds and rub-prone areas.
Alternative formats
When another construction is a better fit
| Alternative | Structural difference | Selection trade-off |

Sampling & production
Choose a Sample That Answers Your Main Concern
A structural sample, a print proof and a finished sample answer different questions. Confirm the sample scope before approval. Free samples are prepared within 15 days; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.
Structure and material sample
Review body paper and film surface with the proposed dimensions and component count. Agree whether the sample uses production materials or substitutes. An unprinted construction sample does not approve printed color.
Print and artwork proof
Review representative artwork at finished size on the agreed proof condition. Check fine detail and important colors. A screen proof cannot establish physical feel or the performance of the finished assembly.
Complete finished sample
Assess film appearance across folds, base support and loaded handle attachment with the specified components and finishing present. Record the approved revision and any differences to resolve before production.
How to Order Laminated Paper Bag
Send your project brief
Send body width × gusset depth × height in mm; handle drop separately. Specify bags by size, artwork, film and handle specification. State the number of finished bags per size and artwork version, delivery destination and required arrival date. Tell us which options are undecided.

Artwork essentials
Prepare Files for the Confirmed Laminated Paper Bag Format
Review artwork guidelines- 01
Keep print and any special finish masks on the approved dieline. Mark film scope, glue regions and handle or reinforcement positions separately.
- 02
Use the PDF/X export preset and output condition confirmed with prepress. Embed fonts and identify the approved file revision.
- 03
Check continuous-tone images at about 300 effective pixels per inch (ppi) at their final placed size. Fine linework can require a different resolution or vector artwork.
- 04
Extend trim artwork by 3 mm unless the approved template specifies otherwise. Keep structural, folding and binding clearances separate from trim bleed.
- 05
Identify named spot colors or physical references and the intended substrate. Agree proof acceptance and keep finishing separations distinct. A screen PDF does not approve printed color.
Engineering & purchasing FAQ
Questions Before Ordering Laminated Paper Bag
Does lamination make the bag waterproof?
A film affects the covered surface, but seams, edges and other components remain part of exposure behavior. Describe moisture conditions and trial the complete configuration; do not infer a universal waterproof rating from the finish.
How do matte and soft-touch finishes compare?
They have different feel and marking behavior on the actual printed stock. Review both appearance and handling on a converted sample, especially at folds and high-contact areas, before selecting the finish.
Which sample should I request first?
Start with the uncertainty that could change the specification: film appearance across folds, base support and loaded handle attachment. If the concern is physical, request the relevant material or functional sample. If it is print appearance, agree a suitable proof. Confirm the sample scope before approval. Free sample preparation is completed within 15 days; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.
How should I state quantities for a quote?
Use finished bags per size and artwork version. Separate versions and give a delivery destination and required arrival date. This lets the quote distinguish the production quantity, packing and shipping scope.
