Product overview

An opening that reveals the center.

Two outer doors close over a broad central panel. The meeting line is a structural seam, so align the composition around it without placing essential words across the closed edges.

01

Meeting outer panels

Two outer wings fold inward toward a center area, producing a deliberate reveal.

02

Wide central canvas

The open center gives a main image or presentation more uninterrupted width.

03

Balanced closure

Wing proportions and fold positions determine how the front edges meet.

Specifications & materials

Set the Wing Widths and Central Display Area

Start with flat and closed width × height in mm; wing widths. Then compare the material and construction choices below.

Use these options to prepare your specification. Material grades, weights, thicknesses and feasible dimensions are confirmed for the quoted construction. A paper weight is not a finished thickness or a strength rating.

Surface finish options

Printed sheet surfaces

Choose the sheen around viewing light and folding. A coating and a bonded film are different routes; confirm fold behavior, color and any writing area on the finished stock rather than assuming every sheet needs lamination.

01 / SELECTION CHECK

Set the wing geometry before artwork

Confirm closed size, central width and the gap or meeting arrangement. Allow for stock thickness and folding. Do not assume two printed edges will meet precisely from a nominal equal-width sketch.

02 / SELECTION CHECK

Review the reveal in a made-up sample

Inspect wing closure, crease appearance and the main image after opening. Decoration close to meeting edges requires particular layout review so important information is not lost or visually interrupted.

Gate-fold panel engineering

Make the two inward doors meet without crowding the center

A gate fold brings two outer panels inward to meet at the center, then opens to reveal a larger interior spread. Set the closed-door alignment, center reveal and interior artwork together; stock and fold tolerances can affect how the doors meet.

Select the material by its finished behavior

For a folding sheet, compare coated 115 or 170 g/m² reference grades with an uncoated writing surface. A heavier sheet may need scoring and can change closing behavior. GSM measures mass per area, not caliper or foldability.

Production checks that prevent avoidable rework

Define the closed meeting line

Mark where the two doors meet and keep important text clear of the center seam. If the design uses an overlap or gap, show it explicitly in the approved layout.

Give both doors compatible widths

The door panels must close without collision and reveal the intended interior. Confirm widths on a folded dummy made to the selected finished size and stock.

Check a cross-spread image at both states

A large image may be interrupted while closed and continuous when open. Verify cropping, focal point and any wording near both vertical fold lines.

Use-case selection

Choose a configuration for the job it has to do

Premium launch reveal

Use the closed doors for a restrained teaser and the interior spread for the full campaign image or offer.

Trade-off: The effect depends on accurate door alignment and adds handling steps.

Venue or property showcase

Place a concise overview on the doors and a panoramic plan or image inside.

Trade-off: Small details in a large spread may not read well at arm's length.

Invitation or presentation piece

Keep names, date and essential instructions easy to find before the doors are opened.

Trade-off: A complex opening experience should not hide critical event information.

Problem → cause → solution

Resolve the failure points before production

The fold shows a pale cracked line

Why it happens: Coating and ink are stretched around a sharp fold; unsuitable grain or an unmatched crease increases stress.

How to prevent it: Make a converted sample on the intended stock and finish. Inspect the dark areas along each crease and adjust grain direction or scoring before releasing the layout.

The doors collide or leave an unintended gap

Why it happens: Door widths were divided mathematically without allowing for material and closing behavior.

How to prevent it: Check the meeting edges on the full finished dummy after surface treatment. Use the approved panel map for print.

Sampling & production

Choose a Sample That Answers Your Main Concern

A structural sample, a print proof and a finished sample answer different questions. Confirm the sample scope before approval. Free samples are prepared within 15 days; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.

Structure and material sample

Review paper and gate geometry with the proposed dimensions and component count. Agree whether the sample uses production materials or substitutes. An unprinted construction sample does not approve printed color.

Print and artwork proof

Review representative artwork at finished size on the agreed proof condition. Check fine detail and important colors. A screen proof cannot establish physical feel or the performance of the finished assembly.

Complete finished sample

Assess wing alignment, closing clearance and the central reveal with the specified components and finishing present. Record the approved revision and any differences to resolve before production.

How to Order Gate-Fold Brochure

  1. Send your project brief

Send flat and closed width × height in mm; wing widths. Specify panel and fold diagram identifying single or additional closing folds. State the number of finished brochures per design and language, delivery destination and required arrival date. Tell us which options are undecided.

  2. Compare the quotation

Ask for pricing by finished brochures per design and language. Compare the same configuration at each quantity. The quotation should identify materials, finishing, sample scope, packing and freight, plus payment and order terms.

  3. Review the right sample

Choose a sample that can demonstrate wing alignment, closing clearance and the central reveal. Confirm what the free sample includes and any differences from the intended production specification. Preparation is completed within 15 days; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.

  4. Approve the production version

Confirm the specification, file revision and sample decisions in writing. Production scheduling follows the agreed approvals and order release conditions; changes may require a revised quote or schedule.

  5. Confirm packing and delivery

Support the wings in their intended closed position. Protect meeting edges from bending and avoid pressure that distorts the reveal geometry. Agree the destination and shipping arrangement, with production, dispatch and transit dates listed separately.

Details to Confirm in the Quotation

Order unit and price breaks
Specify finished brochures per design and language. Request the feasible minimum and quantity breaks for that exact configuration; a change of material, version or component count can change the price.
Sample scope and delivery

Artwork essentials

Prepare Files for the Confirmed Gate-Fold Brochure Format

Review artwork guidelines
  1. 01

Use the approved wing and center layout, indicating outside and inside faces. Separate fold marks and decoration masks from image content.

  2. 02

Use the PDF/X export preset and output condition confirmed with prepress. Embed fonts and identify the approved file revision.

  3. 03

Check continuous-tone images at about 300 effective pixels per inch (ppi) at their final placed size. Fine linework can require a different resolution or vector artwork.

  4. 04

Extend trim artwork by 3 mm unless the approved template specifies otherwise. Keep structural, folding and binding clearances separate from trim bleed.

  5. 05

Identify named spot colors or physical references and the intended substrate. Agree proof acceptance and keep finishing separations distinct. A screen PDF does not approve printed color.

Engineering & purchasing FAQ

Questions Before Ordering Gate-Fold Brochure

Why might the wings need a small allowance?

Stock thickness and folding affect the way the outer panels meet. The production template establishes the appropriate geometry; forcing a nominal edge-to-edge design can create overlap or a visible mismatch.

Can one image cover both closed wings?

It can be designed that way, but the image is divided by the meeting edges. Keep critical fine detail clear and review the made-up sample. The join should not be treated as an uninterrupted print surface.

Which sample should I request first?

Start with the uncertainty that could change the specification: wing alignment, closing clearance and the central reveal. If the concern is physical, request the relevant material or functional sample. If it is print appearance, agree a suitable proof. Confirm the sample scope before approval. Free sample preparation is completed within 15 days; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.

How should I state quantities for a quote?

Use finished brochures per design and language. Separate versions and give a delivery destination and required arrival date. This lets the quote distinguish the production quantity, packing and shipping scope.
