The product in use

Releasable writing leaves supported by a backing board

A notepad joins loose writing leaves at a padded edge above a backing board. The glued edge lets pages release individually, while the backing supports writing as the pad is used. Leaves per pad and printed sides describe different quantities and should remain distinct.

What makes up the finished product?

Writing leaves
Individual paper sheets carry the printed note layout and writing area.
Padded edge
A glued edge joins the stack while allowing individual leaves to release.
Backing board
The backing supports the writing surface, particularly when the pad is held away from a desk.

Uncoated woodfree

Writable paper selected for pen compatibility and clean sheet release

Paper surface affects pen response and show-through. Assess writing comfort and clean leaf removal on the assembled pad.

Sample check: Write on the finished pad and test leaf removal from its beginning, middle and end.

Pad cover and backing stock

Separately specified cover and backing components

A cover can protect the pad and a backing board supports writing. These components are separate from the writable leaves.

Sample check: Test writing support, cover handling and leaf removal on the complete pad.

Selected sample focus — Uncoated woodfree: Write on the finished pad and test leaf removal from its beginning, middle and end.

Surface finish options

Writable sheets and functional areas

Omit added surface treatment from writing and copying areas. Confirm pen, printer or carbonless-copy performance for the specified stock and keep envelope glue and seal areas clear. Cover or backing decoration is a separate specification.

Details that change the finished product

Inspect the printed and converted format

Choose the glue edge and writing support

Use a writable sheet and identify the padded edge. Test removal from the beginning, middle and end of the pad.

Pad assembly

Leaves are physical sheets; a backing board is a separate component in the finished pad. A converted sample checks the fold, cut, glued edge or other functional feature at full size.

Desk Notepads & Promotional Pads

Desk notes

Use writable leaves, a practical glued edge and a supportive backing.

Promotional pad

Count leaves and print sides separately; test removal throughout the pad.

Solve the risk before production

Check Clean Leaf Release from the Glued Edge

The critical finished-product check

Pages can tear or release in clumps when padding and paper are poorly matched. Trial the finished glued edge and adjust the assembly rather than changing only the artwork.

The backing cannot support writing

Why it happens: The sheet size and intended off-desk use are selected without a suitable backing.

Fix and check: Write on a partly used pad in its expected position and evaluate support.

Sample and approval

Test the Finished Padded Edge & Writing Surface

Free samples are available, with preparation completed within 15 days. Confirm the sample scope; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.

Structural sample

Checks dimensions, fit and assembly using unprinted or representative materials. It does not establish final color.

Printed proof

Checks text, image reproduction and artwork on the agreed proof medium. It may not reproduce final assembly or every finish.

Complete finished sample

A converted sample checks the fold, cut, glued edge or other functional feature at full size.

From brief to delivery

Order Details for Notepad Printing

Build and approve the order in five steps

  1. Send the project brief

Send leaves per pad, print sides, padded edge, backing and quantities per artwork. Include finished dimensions, quantity by version, destination and required arrival date. If a configuration is undecided, describe the intended use.

  2. Compare the quoted configuration

Compare the same quantity basis: complete pads per design, with leaves per pad and print sides stated separately. Check that the quote identifies materials, finishing, included components, sample scope, packing and freight.

  3. Approve the appropriate sample

A converted sample checks the fold, cut, glued edge or other functional feature at full size. A print proof checks artwork and color; a complete finished sample also checks assembly. Record what the selected sample does and does not reproduce.

  4. Confirm files and release production

Approve the final artwork revision and the pad assembly specification. Record the agreed quantity, payment conditions, packing and production schedule in the order.

  5. Confirm packing and dispatch

Define pieces per bundle or complete assemblies, component quantities and version labels. Confirm production completion and transit as separate dates, using the delivery destination and required arrival date.

File preparation

Artwork checklist for Notepad Printing

Artwork and production workflow
  • Identify finished and flat dimensions separately. Supply a print-ready PDF with fonts embedded and cut or fold geometry on separate named layers where needed.
  • Extend edge-to-edge trim artwork by 3 mm unless the approved template specifies a different bleed. Use approximately 300 effective ppi for continuous-tone images at their placed size; keep fine linework as vectors where possible.

Project questions

Planning Notepad Printing

Does double-sided printing double the leaf count?

No. A leaf is one physical sheet, even when both sides are printed. Specify the number of leaves per finished pad and the printing on each side separately.

How should I specify quantities and versions?

Count complete pads per design, with leaves per pad and print sides stated separately. State leaves per pad, print sides, padded edge, backing and quantities per artwork; components, language versions and different structures must be listed separately.

What determines the minimum quantity and delivery schedule?

The selected stock, construction, finishing, version count and sample scope determine production planning. Request quantity breaks for the same configuration and an arrival-date plan that separates sampling, manufacturing and transit. No minimum or lead time is implied by the design examples above.

Specify the finished product.

Send leaves per pad, print sides, padded edge, backing and quantities per artwork. Include finished dimensions, quantity by version, destination and required arrival date.
